About the Show

Vulva Va-Voom presents A Rocky, Whorish Patter Show, a high-energy, demented tribute to obsessive nerd fandom (especially fans of a certain 1975 cult film). It’s got witty parody lyrics in a big Broadway belt, tap, burlesque, and audience crowd-work.

National touring artist and ten-time Fringe award winner Vulva Va-Voom (they/them) restages their unhinged, heartfelt tribute, A Rocky, Whorish Patter Show, in all its manic glory. Vulva is joined onstage by Orlando favorite Michael Marinaccio.

Why do fans still gather– week after week– to enact a bizarre musical ritual? Why do fans of ANY movie/book/show devote time and energy to such dorky hobbies? Vulva breaks it all down…in their intelligently filthy “song-and-dance plus cabaret crowd-work” style!

With the ‘75 cult film as their focus, gritty nightclub headliner Vulva uses multimedia (and extremely dirty jokes) to explain fandom obsession. Created for conventiongoers and non-nerds alike, “RWPS” features big belting vocals, tap, burlesque, lots of audience interaction, and the wittiest of parody lyrics. But watch out for an uptight theater admin, one Mr. Samuel Kensington-Somerville (played by Marinaccio). His expectations of a normal, family-friendly Broadway tribute will be sorely disappointed.

FAQ

Q: Is this the world premiere?
A: No, this is the third full run.

Q: What recognition has this show received?
A: The show won The Edge Award at the 2021 Tampa International Fringe Festival. It has also been selected for curated runs at The Fringe Theatre in Tampa and Orlando Fringe ArtSpace.

Q: What kind of audience participation is involved?
A: This isn't a "bring rice, toast, and newspapers" type of audience participation. It is more structured, in the sense that the audience will be cued to interact during appropriate moments in the story.

Q: How familiar do we need to be with the movie in order to understand the jokes?
A: Honestly, not very! It might help to skim the Wikipedia plot summary if you're totally unfamiliar, but most of the material is presented in a self-explanatory way.

Q: How dirty is this show?
A: It has pastie strip tease, strong language, sexual content, and improvised elements that may or may not escalate into explicit discussions or comedic bits. If you are easily offended by sexuality or LGBTQ+ people, this show is not for you.

Q: What are the content warnings for people with trigger reactions?
A: The distressing content may contain (but is not limited to) sexuality, queerphobia, discussion of murder/suicide, and other topics that may arise during improvisation. Audience members who are especially sensitive to topics of violence (firearms) should reach out for details.

Q: Will the performers pull me out of the audience to pick on me?
A: That is not expected. While it is possible that audience members with interesting fashion choices or behaviors may catch the eye of a performer, there are no plans to single out any particular audience member for extreme targeted attention. It is possible that a performer may play "to" a specific audience member or interact with them in a natural way that draws some attention.

Q: How long is the show?
A: The script runs between 55 and 60 minutes. Because there are improvisational elements and audience interactions, this may be extended by 5 minutes or more. Much of it depends upon how shy or outgoing the collective audience "vibe" is.

Q: How early do we need to arrive?
A: There are nearby garages, but parking downtown can be unpredictable. It is good to plan to be parked nearby at least 20 minutes before showtime, because theater doesn't start late the way concerts do. The lobby environment is large and pleasant environment to spend time in. There will be an art display and a wine/beer bar.

Q: How many seats are in the theater?
A: 60, with cabaret table seating.

Q: Where can I see a video trailer?
A: Click below!
